La Leona is a show that explores the dialogue between the animal and the instrument: The acclaimed guitar of Antonio de Torres, which could be considered as the first prototype of the Spanish and Flamenco guitar.
A free reading, full of nuances, mystery and poetry inspired by a unique instrument during its development process.
Olga Pericet, Spanish National Dance Award, along with a team of five musicians, puts her fierceness to the test. She bares herself physically and spiritually to the audience in an intimate and unparalleled experience.
“I want to delve into the origins of the pre-flamenco body. Into its mythology and tribal mystery, which to me is like a powerful animal th at roars to the dissonant sounds of the strings of the first guitars. It is not about dancing to the guitar, but transfiguring it into a body. Finding its essence, its femininity, masculinity, the sacred and the earthly, its hair, its sharp teeth, the claws, the first ambiguous forms.
Aiming to portray an uncompromising vindication of what is feminine. The esthethic recreation is faced with erotism. Exoticism, beauty and co mplete involvement with innovation. Inspired by th e original scores, brass, paint, varnish, wood and other noble materials… sound, matter, essence and roots.”
